Margeaux Interiors Receives Detroit Design Award For Repurposed Furniture

Detroit Design // June 2024

We are humbled and honored to have received a Detroit Design Award for Repurposed Furniture. Thank you @DetroitDesign for this recognition. (Photography by Joseph Tiano)

The dining room renovation of the 1940’s Birmingham bungalow was completed in September, 2023.

A challenge was the size of the space that formerly was a guest bedroom and closet that has been transformed into a dining room, allowing for generous seating, and dinnerware storage.

During the renovation,  square footage was borrowed from a closet to accommodate the new fireplace, as well as, allow length for a table with leaves to accommodate 10. Adding the French door and a window gave the illusion of more space, natural light, and symmetry.

The black geometric grasscloth wall covering gave the unexpected detail to the ceiling along with the sputnik chandelier. The linear tile and cube mantle on the fireplace created architectural interest.

The original 1990’s shaker cherry dining table, chairs, and china cabinet felt dated and matchy.  The dining table was given new life by adding glam with the white quilted leather chairs and hammered drawer knobs.

The heavy cherry china cabinet was repurposed with iron ore painted on the outer cabinet/doors , and crisp white for the interior, along with matte brass pulls for sparkle. Interior cabinet lighting highlights crystal and fine china displayed in a quiet manner.

Dated became glam mod.
